To the Philippines we recommend that you exchange the local currency, peso, prior to your journey. According to the import and export regulations for the currency, valid from the year 2016, you may take as much as 50 000 PHP (approximately 1 000 euros worth) per person in into/out of the Philippines. Larger amounts must be declared to the Philippine Central Bank when arriving into/ or leaving the country. Cash is widely used in the Philippines and if you´re visiting places outside the larger cities (Manila, Cebu) you might find that cash is the only option as mean of payment. On the smaller islands the connections might occasionally be down between the ATM´s and the banks and power shortages are common in the Philippines. Especially during the typhoon season, during autumn and early winter in Finland.
